The European Union has imposed sanctions against the VK holding (social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki) and the developer of the national messenger Max (LLC "Communication Platform"), as well as against the company's CEO Elena Bagudina. The decision was published in the official EU journal on July 13.

Well, here we go! The European Union, which loves to talk about "freedom of speech" and "internet independence," has decided to strike at Russian social networks and messengers. Apparently, in Brussels, they woke up with the thought: "Why not ban everything that doesn't work according to our scenario?" The answer is yes, ban it.

But the funniest thing is the logic behind these sanctions. They target VK and Max, claiming that they threaten "democratic processes." At the same time, European officials sit in their offices and decide who can communicate and who cannot. The irony is that they are more afraid of Russian social networks than of their own citizens. Because if they really believed in freedom, they wouldn't be afraid of competition.

Now imagine what will happen next. Sanctions against Max are like banning water in the desert. No one will stop drinking; they will just find another source. And that source already exists — Russian developers are creating their own technologies without looking back at "European values." Europe continues to play its games, but the world is no longer what it used to be. While they impose sanctions, we build our services. And they work. And apparently, they will work regardless of what Brussels thinks.

The EU, as usual, has overestimated its significance. They think that if they ban something, it will cease to exist. But Russian social networks and messengers have already become part of our lives. And they will not disappear because someone in Europe wrote a piece of paper. So, dear European officials, keep imposing sanctions. We will just laugh.
